MARK GILLISS, P.E.
Vice President, Spectrum Energy, Inc.
Mr. Gilliss has thirty years of experience in the utility power and energy industry. Mr. Gilliss co-founded Spectrum Energy, Inc., in 1998, to provide comprehensive development, engineering, construction and project management services for power generation projects. He is an expert in the development, design and construction of state-of-the art combustion turbine-based combined and simple cycle power projects for utility and industrial applications.
Mr. Gilliss served as Project Manager on two Spectrum simple cycle projects for Dominion Energy and for Delaware Municipal Electric Corporation, installing 595 MW produced by multi-unit General Electric 7FA’s and a LM6000 with Dual fuel, SCR, oxidation catalyst, and fuel gas compression. Mr. Gilliss served as Project Engineer on the aforementioned projects as well as the rest of Spectrum’s projects. These include an additional 735 MW comprised of single and multi-unit LM6000’s and 7EA’s in simple cycle plants, 110 MW in a 2xLM6000 combined cycle plant, and 300 MW 6xFT8 TwinPac power plant. Many customers are repeat customers, such as Constellation Power, Jonesboro City Water and Light, and Dominion Power. Other Spectrum customers Mr. Gilliss has been Project Engineer for include Duke Energy, Alabama Municipal Electric Authority, Public Service Company of New Mexico, and Cinergy Power.
Previously, Mr. Gilliss founded a successful consulting business that provided development, engineering, and project management services to clients in the power industry, including many independent power producers and a number of Fortune 500 companies. Projects included the Puente Hills Energy Recovery from Gas Project, a 50 MW landfill gas-fired power plant that has been successfully operating since November 1986, the first and still the largest landfill gas-fired power plant in the world. Mr. Gilliss also served as Project Engineer on an LM-2500 cogeneration project and on a number of biomass-fired power projects. Many of these projects Mr. Gilliss worked on prior to establishing Spectrum were with other the future Spectrum employees, establishing the Spectrum core that continues today.
Mr. Gilliss is a Registered Professional Engineer in Alabama, Arkansas, California, Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Arizona, where he was Tau Beta Phi the National Engineering Honor Society.
